When first setting out to do long exposure photography there are the basic needs: a sturdy tripod, a cable release (or the timer function on your camera), and some patience. However, Scott Wyden Kivowitz takes us beyond these basics to some of the things you may not have thought of when setting out on a long exposure excursion. My favorite? The laser pointer. I never would have thought of it, but will certainly be adding it to my gear kit now.
